Double delight an ace for Blackheath's Macartney

Saturday’s Club comp was supposed to be like any other day for Blackheath Golf Club’s Chris Macartney, that was until he pulled off the incredible; not one but two holes-in-one in the same round.
Macartney described the experience as like “golfing heaven” after pulling off the feat, which experts rate at a likelihood of about one in 156 million.
The excitement began on just the second hole of the day when Macartney’s eight-iron from his bag for the 157m par-three found the bottom of the cup.
“It probably was just a metre short of the green, and I could see it roll towards the hole and I was pretty sure I saw it go in,” he said.
Mr Macartney’s playing partner Carlos Donoso walked with him to check, and the pair were “overjoyed” to realise the 48-year-old had hit his first-ever hole-in-one.
A little overawed with the feat, Mr Macartney struggled to focus on the next 10 holes but kept his game together. Little did they know when they arrived at the 156 metre 13th, things were going to get crazier still.
“There was a bit of wind around, and I took out my seven iron (club)… the direction was just left of middle of the green,” Macartney explained.
“Again, I expected it landed just short on the smallish mount. We saw it take a sharp kick to the right, towards the pin.
“Carlos was ahead of me, but when he saw it was in the hole, he yelled out at the boys on the fourth tee and told them I had just scored my second hole in one.”
The Mount Victoria local started playing golf just two years ago after first taking to the sport in his youth – but his performance at Blackheath Golf and Community Club on Saturday would have drawn the envy of the game’s elite.
PGA Tour Star Brian Harman is the only professional to have recorded the feat, doing it on the US tour in 2015 on the Barclays Classic. A little closer to home, Shelly Beach’s Greg Wall also achieved the remarkable feat during a club comp back in august 2017.
