by Golf Australia
Brian Lasky has been awarded an Order of Australia Medal in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours List for his services to golf.
Brian has been a member of Cranbourne Golf Club in Melbourne’s south east since 1964 and has been instrumental in Victorian golf, after being first elected to the Council of the Victorian Golf Association in 2001.
He was a member of the Golf Victoria Interim Board in 2010 when the Victorian Golf Association and Women’s Golf Victoria amalgamated, and he remained on the Board until May 2017.
During his tenure at the Victorian Golf Association and Golf Victoria, Brian was a respected member of the Match Committee (Chair from 2007 until April 2018), Selection/High Performance Committee (Chair from 2007 until 2014), Rules & Handicapping Committee, Planning and Development Committee, Finance Committee and Junior Committee.
He was also Chairman of the Turf Research Advisory Board, and the VGA Representative on the Victorian Institute of Sport Golf Program Management Committee.
Brian also managed many Victorian Junior Boys, Colts and Men’s State Teams, and was significant in bringing about a change in culture in how Golf Victoria engaged with elite players. He was also one of the original Victorian State Level Referees having been a rules official at Australian Opens since 1994.
“Brian’s contribution to Victorian golf is immeasurable and this award is thoroughly deserved,” said Stephen Spargo AM, Golf Victoria President.
“We are indebted to Brian for his exemplary service and the selfless and dedicated way he has advanced the game’s interests and wellbeing."
